Jim Stewart is one of the most legendary poker players in the history of poker. He has been the head of the famous PokerStars pro team for quite some time. In addition, he is also the author of several books on poker, TV interviews, and poker tournaments. Jim Stewart took up poker at the tender age of 16, winning a $100,000 tournament at the World Series of Poker. Although, Stewart did not win the Main Event bracelet, he has won over $2.7 million in tournament play.
Stewart did not stop at the poker tables. After leaving school, he took up a sales position with a nearby competitor. Although he had no clue what the heck he was doing, Stewart walked away with a $100,000 second place finish. After this, Stewart knew poker was a serious career. He took a last-minute trip to Las Vegas, and lost almost all of his money. Stewartvernight from bum to millionaire in a blink.
Stewart founded Stewart Wagner Professional Lottoley in 1993, which is still operating today. With the early beginnings of the sport in 1992, it is no wonder the German-born Stewart climates the dizzying atmosphere of Las Vegas just to bring luck to some of his customers.
He has written numerous books on his favorite game, including: Attention, Attitude, Critical Overview, and SCAM! The Making of a Texas Hold’em Champion. His knowledge of the game and his unparalleled experience in it has given him the well-deserved reputations as aDaily Poker Matchmaker sensation.
In addition, Stewart played in the World Poker Tour for two consecutive years, and established himself as one of the best in the game. He achieved this by playing extensively in what is known as the “Card Club Challenge,” a weekly heads-up poker tournament. The Blackjack Ball players who won the Club Challenge series tournament became the basis for the poker players who became the backbone of the next generation of talent in professional poker. These players, in turn, would establish themselves as some of the best in the business.
Stewart has been a champion in the world of poker, but is mostly known for his greatest challenge and achievement. He walked into the year 2001 with an initial bankroll of $1.2 million and built it up to more than $2.7 million in just about six years. Most of the money came from just a few games, and was earned mostly when he didn’t care about what happened to him. Stewart quit his job in a bid to build his poker bankroll into a full-time career, and he didn’t look back.
He is quoted as saying: “You have to continually pound the table and the board. You have to continually find ways to win. There’s no vacation, there’s no getting days off. It’s basically a business.”
In the early days, Stewart was saving up his winnings to buy a half million dollar home. That dream went up in smoke, but he was far from done. Stewart currently shares his home with his poker dog, illionaire guilt jerk, and though he says he doesn’t gamble anymore, he still finds time to log on and play online.
